2017 Jeep Compass to go on sale in India this August

Display units to reach dealerships this month.

The 2017 Jeep Compass' production has started at the Tata-FCA JV facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. Dealership sources say that early display units will reach dealerships this month for prospective customers to have a closer look, and sales will commence in August.

Indian 2017 Jeep Compass buyers will get two engine options to choose from: 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel.

The 2017 Jeep Compass buyers in India will get two engine options: a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit that develops over 160 hp and 250 Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Multijet diesel unit with over 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual transmission and 7-speed DDCT dual-clutch automatic for the petrol variant. The diesel model will get a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and the Jeep Active Drive 4WD system as an option, while a 9-speed automatic transmission option is reported to arrive in early 2018.

In terms of equipment, the 2017 Jeep Compass range will sell in three grades: Sport, Longitude and Limited. The Trailhawk grade is a skip at launch, but FCA India has confirmed to IAB that it is evaluating the off-road focused grade for the local market. Over 50 trim configurations and value packages are planned for Indian-spec Compass, with features like projector headlamps with DRLs, cornering fog lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electric parking brake, cap-less fuel filler and more.

The compact SUV will have a plethora of safety features including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Rollover Mitigation and Traction Control. It will compete with the Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and VW Tiguan.
