Lighter, more advanced Porsche Cayenne to hit the roads next year.

Porsche introduced the second-gen Porsche Cayenne in 2011 and is now working on a replacement for it. Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Mueller has confirmed that the next-gen Porsche Cayenne will debut this year, although sales of the redesigned model are expected to commence only in 2018.

Auto Express has created renderings of it based on the latest info.

The all-new Porsche Cayenne will ride on the MLB-Evo platform and drop weight by up to 100 kg.

Like a typical Porsche, the Cayenne will undergo an evolutionary redesign for its third generation, retaining the basic shape, proportions and silhouette of the outgoing model. The new generation model should have cues borrowed from the smaller Porsche Macan as well as the all-new Porsche Panamera. To rendering previews a Macan-inspired front fascia, and it is not any difficult to imagine a Panamera-like rear with sleek LED tail lights that span across the width. The interior should have notable similarities to the new Panamera, including the digital dashboard and other latest tech.

The next-gen Porsche Cayenne will ride on the MLB-Evo platform that currently underpins the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga and will form the basis for even the Lamborghini Urus. The new platform is lighter than the one the current model uses, and it should help make the SUV lighter by up to 100 kg.

Along with an array of V6 and V8 conventional petrol and diesel engines, rumour has it that a pure electric powertrain is also on the cards. Needless to say, the range will include a hybrid model too, probably powered by the 680 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain of the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
