Could be officially unveiled this year.

In 2015, Lamborghini had confirmed that Urus will go on sale internationally in 2018. Speaking to Digital Trends recently, Stefano Domenicali, CEO, Automobili Lamborghini, revealed that the company plans to start manufacturing the Urus in Sant’Agata Bolognese from April 2017.

Lamborghini Urus front
The Lamborghini Urus will be based on Volkswagen Group’s MLB-Evo platform.

Initially the company will build pre-series models. As it will be an entirely new process for the Italian exotic carmaker, the first few cars will be prototypes, and these units will be shown to dealers and be used to train people, as per the report. The Huracan and Aventador’s production will be limited to approximately 3,000 units combined, but around 3,000 units of the Urus alone will be made annually at the Italian plant.

The Lamborghini Urus will be based on Volkswagen Group’s MLB-Evo platform that is utilised by a number of current VW Group models. It will launch with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine which will be linked to a conventional automatic transmission, but a plug-in hybrid option will be introduced later. There’s no plan to offer a diesel model. The Urus will have a specific setup for ice, snow, stones and sand, similar to the Aventador S’ Ego approach, but Lamborghini does reassure that the Urus will perform like a true Lamborghini.

The Lamborghini Urus’ will be primarily target markets such as USA, China, the Middle East, UK, Germany and Russia. Pavan Shetty, ex-CEO of Lamborghini India, had hinted that India will also get the Urus. The prospect of a Lamborghini SUV is also appealing in the Indian market, where Lamborghini’s Huracan is one of the best selling supercars in the country.
