The Tata Nexon will arrive in the market as the company's first sub-4 metre SUV.

The Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza have made the sub-4 metre SUV segment very popular. Tata Motors will foray this segment with the Tata Nexon.

Close to concept

The Tata Nexon won't change much from the near-production concept that was seen at Auto Expo 2016. However, the production version does see a lot of changes from the concept shown at Auto Expo 2014.

Most powerful diesel engine

The Tata Nexon will get the segment's most powerful diesel engine, an all-new 1.5-litre unit that produces 108 bhp and 260 Nm of torque.

Tamo RaceMo's petrol engine

The Tata Nexon will get the Tamo Racemo's 190 PS 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine in a de-tuned state. The company may tune this engine to produce somewhere around 120-125 PS to compete with the Ford EcoSport 1.0L EcoBoost.

6-speed transmission

The Tata Nexon diesel will feature a 6-speed manual transmission, a first for any vehicle in the segment. The petrol model will feature a 5-speed manual transmission.

All-Wheel-Drive

AMT option

Along with the two manual transmissions, the Tata Nexon will have an option for an automated manual transmission as well. Tata Motors is already testing the vehicle with an AMT unit.

No Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

The Tata Nexon will feature a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system developed by Harman, but this unit won't have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration compatibility initially. An update may bring these features at a later date.

Pilot Production commenced

Recent spy shots suggest that Tata Motors has commenced pre-production of the Tata Nexon. Series production should commence in the second half of 2017.
