Only for the Maruti Swift Dzire diesel variant, reportedly.
According to Motor Trend India, the next gen Maruti Swift Dzire diesel will feature the SHVS mild-hybrid system, which is currently offered in the Maruti Ciaz and Maruti Ertiga.
Given that fuel efficiency numbers play a big role in influencing a car buyer's decision, it's no surprise that the next gen Dzire will raise the benchmark set by the current model (26.59 km/L) in the sub-4m sedan segment. Other than the fuel-saving SHVS tech, the next gen Swift Dzire's platform (sourced from the Maruto Baleno) will be lighter than the outgoing model, which could see the Dzire's mileage in touching distance of 30 km/L.
The report also states that the diesel variant will continue with the 1.3L DDiS 4-cyl diesel engine, which produces 75 PS and 190 Nm of peak torque in the current model. Other than a standard 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT will be offered as optional.
The 2017 Maruti Dzire was recently spied testing in Gurgaon by one of our readers. Although it was heavily covered up, noticeable details include LED-powered brake lights housed in redesigned taillamps, new projector headlamps with LED daytime running strips, sleeker ORVMs with turn indicators, new grille with horizontal slats, and fog lamps.
