It was earlier speculated to feature a 6-speed AT.
According to GaadiWaadi, the Maruti Baleno RS will only come with a 5-speed manual gearbox at launch. It was earlier speculated to offer a 6-speed AT as an option, so as to rival the 7-speed DSG VW Polo GT TSI.
The Baleno RS is reported to launch in Q1 2017, after the Ignis arrives in January. It is Maruti's first RS variant to feature more than just cosmetic enhancements. Under the hood is an all new 1.0L Boosterjet 3-cyl turbo petrol engine with output figures similar to the Euro-spec Baleno Boosterjet's 110 hp and 160 Nm of torque. Despite the power bump, the Baleno RS is expected to be more fuel efficient than the 1.2 petrol variant.
The Baleno RS test mule spotted by GaadiWaadi featured black 16 inch alloy rims and disc brakes on all four wheels for better stopping power. Although not equipped in the test mule, the Baleno RS will also come with a sportier body kit showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 which includes a redesigned bumper with silver accents, side skirts, mesh grille and a sportier rear bumper.

At launch, the Baleno RS will rival the slightly more powerful Fiat Punto Abarth and VW Polo GT TSI. Should the Baleno RS do well in India, expect more manufacturers to enter the hot hatch segment.
