The production Audi Q8 will compete with the likes of BMW X6 and Range Rover Sport Coupe.

Speaking to the German publication, Audi design chief Marc Lichte said that the Audi Q8 concept will be a cross between an SUV and a Sportcoupe. The teasers convey that the Audi Q8 will be big brother of the Audi Q6, a coupe-styled large crossover positioned above the Audi Q7 to compete with the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe, as well as the Range Rover Sport Coupe due next year. Mr. Lichte indicated that it will have quite a distinctive interior.

The Audi Q8 will sit on the MLB-Evo modular platform that underpins the Audi Q7, Audi A4 and Audi A5. Besides conventional V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engines, the new flagship SUV may be offered with one or more of the company's alternative fuel powertrain, one of which could be a plug-in hybrid or a pure electric.
