All Ford India products now have driver's airbag as standard.
Ford India has now made dual airbags standard in the base Ford EcoSport Ambiente variant, which were previously available in Trend and above variants. With this move, Ford India has made driver's airbag standard in all its products.
ABS and EBD continue to remain standard in EcoSport Trend and above variants, while Titanium and Titanium Plus come additionally equipped with side and curtain airbags. ESP and Traction Control is available in the automatic variant, as before.
Ford is banking on the EcoSport's safety credentials to lure customers away from competition. The standardization of airbags across the range seems to be a response to its closest rival, the Maruti Vitara Brezza, which comes with a standard driver airbag across the range, while a passenger airbag and ABS are optional right from the base trim. Ford officially dropped prices of the EcoSport by over INR 1 lakh days after the Vitara Brezza launched.
No other changes have been made to the range. The EcoSport is available with a choice of three engines: 1.5-liter Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5-liter TDCi diesel engine and a 1.0L EcoBoost three cylinder engine. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard across the range, while the 1.5-liter petrol is exclusively available with a 6-speed Powershift DCT gearbox.
