2017 Jeep Compass spotted testing in Himachal Pradesh

First locally-made Jeep will arrive in showrooms in Q2 2017. 

The 2017 Jeep Compass has been spied testing by Team-BHP member Aditya Sen in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. Jeep India has confirmed that the new Compass will be the first Jeep to be locally manufactured at Tata-FCA JV’s plant in Ranjangaon.

As the Jeep Compass will be manufactured in India, expect it to be priced far better than Jeep’s existing vehicles.

The Compass will go on sale in 100 markets starting early next year, first being Brazil, where it made its world debut. Bookings are currently being accepted i South America, and it’s priced between BRL 99,990 and BRL 149,990 (INR 20.29 Lakhs – INR 30.72 Lakhs). As the Compass is manufactured in India, expect it to be priced competitively.

The exterior styling of the new Jeep Compass borrows many cues from the bigger Jeep Grand Cherokee. Some features in the Brazilian-spec model include an 8.4-inch UConnect touchscreen system, configurable TFT screen in instrument cluster, keyless entry with start/stop button and Beats 9-speaker audio system with subwoofer.

The India-spec Compass is likely to pack a 2.0L Multijet II diesel with a 6-speed manual or 9-speed AT, while the petrol variant is rumored to feature a smaller 1.4 Multiair engine also paired with a manual or automatic gearbox. Being a Jeep, an AWD system is likely to be offered at launch.
