Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has confirmed that the Hyundai Tucson will be launched for sale in India on October 24. This marks the return of the Tucson nameplate to India since its discontinuation in 2010, and arrives over 8 months after it was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016.
The new Hyundai Tucson will slot between the Hyundai Santa Fe and Hyundai Creta, and help HMIL further improve its premium brand image. Reports suggest that Hyundai is keen to source 50% of the components locally, so as to price the 2016 Tucson competitively. It’s expected to range between INR 17 lakhs and INR 22 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi).
The India-spec Hyundai Tucson is expected in a choice between a 2.0-litre MPI four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 152 PS & 195 Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre CRDi four-cylinder diesel engine in multiple power outputs – 136 PS and 184 PS. Transmission options will include 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, while an all-wheel drive system could be offered on select models.
