External spare wheel not the best answer to buyers in the city, feels FCA's MD.
FCA India's president and managing director Kevin Flynn spoke to IndianAutosBlog.com at the introduction of the Jeep brand about its next launch, the Fiat Urban Cross.
When asked on the differentiation between the Urban Cross and the Avventura, he said -
Urban cross is well suited for the city, the practical nature of the (External) spare wheel in a city location isn't necessarily the best answer. It works for some people, but not to the kind of numbers we thought. The attitude of the Urban Cross is different. The Avventura has not achieved the numbers we deserved - so we changed the front and rear, and that with the selection of engines we put in, it's going to be a brilliant urban car.
The Punto based pseudo crossover get a 1.4L T-Jet petrol engine that produces 140 PS/210 Nm of torque and a 1.3L Multijet turbodiesel engine with 93 PS/209 Nm of torque. The only gearbox will be the 5-speed manual.

At the measuring tape, the Urban Cross is 4,000 mm long, 1,700 mm wide, 1,500 mm tall and has a ground clearance of 205 mm.
