Made its debut at the Auto Expo this year.
Ahead of its launch confirmed to take place this year, the 2016 Hyundai Tucson was snapped testing in Chennai by a Motoroids reader. The spyshot reaffirms earlier reports which indicated a market launch during the August-September period this year.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) plans on positioning the Tucson between the Creta and Santa Fe. Helping the Tucson in this respect is its specifications: The SUV measures 4,475 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, 1,645 mm in height and 2,670 mm in wheelbase and comes with a 513 liter boot, putting it perfectly between the two products.
Where the Creta is powered by a 1.6-liter diesel engine (a 1.6-liter petrol and 1.4-liter diesel are also offered) and the Santa Fe by a 2.2-liter diesel unit, the India-spec Tucson is likely to employ the 2.0-liter CRDi engine which is available in power outputs of 136 PS and 184 PS, and with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The 2.0-liter diesel engine, which displaces 1,995 cc to be precise, will also allow HMIL to sell the Tucson in NCR, should the ban on large diesel engines continue.
