The Sanand plant will export the hatchback.
The Fiat 500-based current, second generation Ford Ka that was introduced in 2008 is soon to be axed. Later this year, Ford will introduce the fully redesigned third generation Ford Ka (second generation Ford Figo) in Europe. The all-new model will be called Ford Ka+ and go on sale this year itself, Ford confirmed in a statement. Reports say that the new generation model's introduction will happen in Summer (June-August) and that the '+' in its name represents the increased dimensions.
Sold as the new Ford Figo in India, the hatchback measures 3,886 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and 1,525 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,491 mm.
While dimensions may remain more or less the same, the European version will differ to a considerable extent in terms of safety and equipment quality. In a conference call with journalists, Roelant de Waard, Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe, said that the Euro-spec Ford Ka+ will be priced around €10,000 (£7969/INR 7,52,396).
