Launch in early H2 2016 confirmed.
At a special event showcasing products from manufacturers that support the Make in India campaign in Mumbai, Volkswagen India brought the VW Ameo compact sedan for display, following its global premiere a couple of weeks back. The car will launch in India in mid-2016.
This is the first sub-4m sedan from VW that specifically targets Indian customers. In brief, the exterior design is can be described as a VW Polo with a stubby boot. The front-end features the familiar angular headlamps, sleek dual slat grille, rectangular foglamps housed within the central intake, while the rear-end has new taillamps and a sculpted boot.
VW customers will feel at home inside the VW Ameo, which comes with a design identical to its hatchback and sedan cousins. It is finished in a dual tone black and beige, and features silver trim on the center console, multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel with manual adjustability and a Bluetooth-enabled infotainment system.
The Volkswagen Ameo will bank on its feature list to woo customers. The top-end variant is equipped with rear view camera, a MirrorLink entertainment system, auto dimming internal mirror, ABS and dual front airbags as standard in all variants, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, automatic AC, cornering lights, and front center armrest with rear AC vent.

As for engine lineup, the diesel variant will utilize the 1.5-liter TDI engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG, while the petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPI petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
