VW India has unveiled its first ever India-exclusive product - a compact sedan christened as the VW Ameo. VW India announced that this segment has grown by double digit last year. The market launch will take place in the early part of H2 2016, VW India confirmed.
The Ameo is based on the VW Polo’s PQ25 platform, and will be made at the same factory as the latter with an investment of INR 720 crore, in Pune. The exterior design is basically a VW Polo with a boot; however the rear-end features a stubby boot, and taillamps that looks similar to the Polo’s design.
Inside, it gets a dual tone black and beige interior color combination, silver trim on the center console, multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel with manual adjustability and a Bluetooth-enabled infotainment system.
The VW Ameo is confirmed with features such as a rear view camera, a MirrorLink entertainment system, auto dimming internal mirror, ABS and dual front airbags as standard, Cruise control, rain sensing wipers, automatic AC, cornering lights, alloy wheels and front center armrest with rear AC.
The VW Ameo will be available in petrol and diesel variants. Diesel power is sourced from a 1.5-liter TDI engine that is confirmed with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG. As for the petrol variant, it packs a 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPI petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
