Should be imported via the CKD route.

The second generation VW Tiguan that was revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) last year had its Indian debut at the Auto Expo 2016 last week. According to a report from Economic Times, the compact crossover won’t be a CBU import, but be assembled in India. Expected to launch later this year, the VW Tiguan will be assembled at the company’s plant in Aurangabad.

Based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, the 2016 VW Tiguan is available with two engines in Germany: a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 132 kW (180 PS/177 hp) and 320 Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 110 kW (150 PS/148 hp) and 340 Nm of torque.

The VW Tiguan shown at the Auto Expo 2016 featured the 132 kW (180 PS/177 hp) 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine, but bringing the 140 kW (190 PS/188 hp) 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine here shouldn’t be a problem, as its displacement stands at 1,968 cc, below the limit allowed in Delhi and NCR. Transmission options may include 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG.
