Gets 5-star rating when equipped with ESC.
ASEAN NCAP has announced the second generation Toyota Innova (Toyota Innova Crysta) has scored up to 5-star safety rating. The ASEAN-spec 2016 Toyota Innova, sourced from Indonesia, is available with ESC (Electronic Stability Control), but not as standard. Thus, the ESC-equipped trim levels get for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) a score of 14.10 points (out of maximum 16.00) and a 5-star safety rating.
The rest of the new generation Toyota Innova range does with 4-star overall safety rating due to unavailability of ESC as standard. The Child Occupant Protection (COP) compliance is marked at 76%, putting the new generation model in 4-star category. It is yet to be seen what safety features are made available as standard in India. The Toyota Innova Crysta in 'Z' trim level shown at the Auto Expo 2016 was listed with airbags, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist.
The 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta will likely be available with a 2.4-litre GD diesel engine that develops 149 PS and 342 Nm (5-speed MT)/360 Nm of torque (6-speed AT). If the ban in Delhi and NCR for diesel engine cars with displacement over 2.0-litre continues during the next financial year, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 139 PS and 183 Nm of torque may also be made available.
