Expected to launch in the coming weeks.
Tata Motors has started producing the Tata Tiago. It is manufactured at the company’s Sanand plant, and 1,800 units have already rolled out, according to a report on the Economic Times.
A Tata Motors spokesperson told the publication that the company is “in process of completing all regulatory registrations” and that the car will be launched soon. ET also reports that Tata has been in negotiation with the government of Gujarat for receiving the same or similar benefits offered to the Tata Nano to other models as well which are manufactured at the Sanand facility.
The Sanand plant is reported to be operating at just 10 percent of its manufacturing capacity, as the production of the Tata Nano has substantially decreased since its launch in 2009. A total of 42,561 of the Nano were produced in the last two calendar years – 18,956 in 2014 and 23,605 in 2015.
The Tata Tiago will be powered by the brand’s latest three-cylinder 1.2-liter Revotron petrol and 1.05-liter Revotorq diesel engine.
