Target is to reach 1 million cars per year by 2020.

In an interview with ET Auto, father of the Renault Kwid, Gerard Detourbet, has stated that bodystyles such as SUV, sedan and pickup can be introduced on the Kwid's CMF-A platform.

There could be 5-7 bodystyles introduced on the CMF-A platform, which range from SUVs to sub-4m sedans.

He said:

I have a lot of work ahead of me, developing new bodies on this...platform. I think in five years, by 2020, we should be able to sell 1 million cars per year on this new platform...We can do everything, a 4X4, hatch, sedan, sevenseater and pick-up.

The Kwid's CMF-A platform has been localized in the Indian market to 98 percent. With that in mind, it's indeed likely that Renault India could launch more bodystyles to leverage the low production costs attributed to the high localization of the CMF-A platform.

This could also help Renault-Nissan reach a target of 1 million CMF-A- based cars per year by the end of the decade.

With that, this could help Renault-Nissan reach a target of 1 million CMF-A- based cars per year by the end of the decade, and help achieve Renault India's ambition of increasing market share in the country to 5 percent by 2017. Currently, the company has a market share of about 2 percent.
