The Suzuki Ignis has gone on sale in its home market of Japan, where it’s priced from 1.382 million Yen (INR 8 lakhs). The company has released new videos that further explain the features and specification of the sub-4m crossover.
The only engine available is a 1.25-liter four-cylinder K12C DualJet petrol engine with VVT and SHVS mild-hybrid technology as standard across the range. It produces 91 PS and 118 Nm of torque, while a DC synchronous motor adds a further 3.1 PS and 50 Nm of torque. A CVT is the only gearbox option, though paddle shifters are included.
The Ignis 2WD weighs 880 kg and is capable of a mileage of 28 km/l, while the 4WD-equipped model tips the scale at 920 kg and can hit 25.4 km/l, both under the JC08 driving cycle. It measures 3,700 mm long, 1,660 mm in wide, 1,595 mm in high, has a 2,435 mm long wheelbase and has a 180 mm high ground clearance.
As for its introduction in India, the sub-4m crossover will make its Indian premiere as the Maruti Ignis at the Auto Expo 2016 on February 3, 2016. It is expected to go on sale in the festive period season this year, where it will reportedly be sold from Maruti’s NEXA premium outlets.
