The new Bajaj commuter motorcycle that is expected to replace the Discover brand, has been snapped again, by Bikewale. The prototype seems to be put together from the parts bin of the old Pulsar 150 and the Avenger.

The new Bajaj commuter is expected to be launched in the coming weeks within this fiscal.

From early 2015, reports have been suggesting that Bajaj Auto plan to introduce a new brand of commuter motorcycles that would be slotted in between the Bajaj Platina and the Bajaj Discover brands. A recent report said that a new sub-brand of Bajaj will be introduced this year that it will replace the Discover range of models. The same report suggested that the first model under the new banner would be a 150 cc offering which will be followed by a 135 cc product.

The spied prototype appears to fit the bill, judging from the recycled components that will cut development costs and its appeal that is convincing of an intra-city motorcycle that has comfortable seats for the rider as well as a pillion.

The model is expected to be powered either by the Discover 150's engine or the Pulsar 150's motor.

While the test mule isn't the final specification, it adopts a street fighter type front end and a cruiser style seat and rear end, which suggests that Bajaj Auto is attempting to capitalise further on the fact that there is no other model in the market at a commuter price point that offers the comfort of a cruiser motorcycle, other than the recently introduced Bajaj Avenger 150 which is reported to be garnering higher-than-targeted sales.

In addition to the apparent sharing of components from the existing and old Bajaj models, the engine is expected to be derived from either the Bajaj Discover 150 or the Bajaj Pulsar 150, which would prove that the new model has not absorbed a high investment, resulting in competitive pricing and a shorter time to market.
