India's largest car maker, Maruti-Suzuki, has confirmed that it will showcase the Suzuki Ignis at the Auto Expo 2016 next week. Here is the complete lowdown on the compact crossover:
1. Maruti Ignis Indian launch:
Sources have confirmed to Indian Autos Blog that the Maruti Ignis will launch in India this year. According to reports, the Ignis will launch in the festive season period of 2016, and will be retailed through Maruti's NEXA dealerships.
2. Dimensions:
The Maruti Ignis will measure 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, 2435 mm in wheelbase and 180 mm in ground clearance. Like the Maruti Baleno, the Ignis will be a lightweight in its class, tipping the scales at around 850-900 kg.
3. Maruti Ignis Engine options:
Though the Ignis gets a 1.25-liter DualJet engine abroad, for India, it will rely on the 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine borrowed from the Swift. Maruti could also offer its Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine, which will be manufactured in India, on the Ignis. Coming to the diesel engine, the company could use the Suzuki-developed 0.8-liter two-cylinder DDiS unit, or the Fiat-borrowed 1.3-liter MultiJet engine for the crossover.
4. Features:
As is with any Maruti retailed through the NEXA outlet, the Ignis will be well kitted for its price range, a source told Indian Autos Blog. Buyers can expect dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, a touchscreen SmartPlay system, reverse parking sensors and a multifunction steering wheel.
5. SHVS Micro-Hybrid system anticipated:
The Maruti Ignis is expected to come with Suzuki's SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) system with automatic start/stop. Maruti aims to equip most of its offerings with this fuel saving technology, the source revealed.
