To have 400 Nm of peak torque.
The 2015 Tata Safari Storme (facelift) was launched in June this year, with an updated styling, interior and powertrain. According to these spyshots on Team-BHP, the company could launch another version of the Safari Storme featuring a more powerful engine.
The recently launched Safari Storme received subtle cosmetic changes and added features like a new, Harman audio system with USB, AUX-in and Bluetooth connectivity, a reverse parking sensor system, the company's new signature steering wheel with multifunction buttons, and a centre armrest for rear passengers. Its engine was revised to feature a better clutch and produce 150 PS and 320 Nm.
The spied Tata Safari Storme has VARICOR 400 badging that suggests it will be powered by the specially tuned 2.2-litre engine featured on the Tata Hexa concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It was revealed to be capable of producing 155 PS and 400 Nm.
The Safari Storme with the VARICOR 400 engine is expected to be launched as an additional variant to the current Storme lineup, instead of the motor being offered as standard on all existing versions. The engine is reported to be available with choices of a six-speed manual gearbox and a GM-sourced six-speed automatic transmission on the upcoming Tata Hexa SUV. On the Safari Storme, the motor could be offered only with a six-speed manual transmission. This new version is also expected to get the shift-on-the fly four-wheel drive system as an option.

The rest of the features would be carried over from the top-end VX trim. It is likely that this will be the only VX version to be offered on the Safari Storme, discontinuing the current VX model with the 150 PS engine.
The new Safari Storme VX with the VARICOR 400 engine could be priced around INR 13.50 lakhs (ex-showroom).
