Dealerships of Renault India have started deliveries of the Renault Kwid, which went on sale last month. Priced from INR 2.56 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi, Renault announced that the Kwid has received over 25,000 bookings.
Over 35 percent of customers are from Tier II and Tier III cities, while nearly 40 percent of buyers are under the age of 28. Around 15 percent of buyers are female, the company said.
The Kwid is powered by a 799 cc three-cylinder petrol engine capable of 54 PS @ 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm of torque @ 4,386 rpm. It is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and claims a segment best fuel economy of 25.17 km/l. Later in its lifecycle, a more powerful petrol engine, and the option of an AMT (automated manual transmission) will also be added. However, a diesel variant will not be offered on the Kwid.
The Kwid is made at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Chennai with a localization of 98 percent. The plant will also export the Kwid to other markets, Mr. Sumit Sawhney, CEO and MD of Renault India confirmed.

The Kwid is positioned in the entry-level hatchback segment, and rivals the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon. A detailed comparison of these cars can be found here.
