Its fuel efficiency and maintenance cost are the crowd pullers, says the company.
The Renault Kwid has garnered over 25,000 bookings in India, Renault India announced today. Priced starting from INR 2.56 lakhs, the company said the response was equally good from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
Sawhney has told Economic Times that the class-leading mileage and low maintenance cost of the Kwid are the main reasons for its success. Over 230,000 people have downloaded the Kwid app, he says, which allows the customer to see the features of the car, read reviews, and book it for INR 5,000. Sawhney said last week that the booking amount for the Kwid in showrooms was INR 25,000, and that deliveries will begin on October 7.
ET reports that of the 25,000 bookings, almost 35 percent come from the tier II and tier III cities such as Nagpur, Rajkot, Nashik, Ludhiana and Jalandhar among other towns. Almost 40 percent of buyers are below the age of 28 and approximately 15 percent of the buyers are female. Renault operates 175 outlets in the country, which will reach 210 by the year end.
Sawhney said at the media roundtable last week that many buyers were opting for the 7-inch MediaNav touch-screen system, a segment-first feature. Renault is offering a 50,000 km/2 years maintenance contract standard with the car that can be extended to 80,000 km/4 years. A complimentary Road Side Assistance is offered for 2 years.
