Mahindra & Mahindra’s upcoming compact SUV which has been codenamed the S101, could be called the Mahindra CUV100 or Mahindra XUV100, reports MotorOctane. The website had published Mahindra product names 'TUV300' and 'Jeeto' weeks ahead of their official announcements.
The S101/XUV100/CUV100 is likely to be in showrooms by the end of this year, and would be the second all-new sub-4m Mahindra vehicle. IAB readers who spot test mules of the vehicle regularly in and around Chennai said that, on road, it looks like a tall hatchback rather than a compact SUV, with a curvy roofline, short overhangs and wheelbase, and small wheels. The only characteristics that lend it an SUV-ish character is its high ground clearance and high Hip Point.
A very recent reader image showed that Mahindra has given it the company’s distinctive six-tooth grille.
The S101 will be based on a new monocoque chassis, the second from the UV major, and will be powered by new petrol and diesel engines displacing 1.2-liters from their three-cylinder blocks. These units, developed in association with Ssangyong, are a part of a new family that offer more fuel efficiency, and will be paired to manual and AMT transmissions to target a wider customer profile.

Interiors of test mules have been pictured having a bench seat at the front and the gear lever mounted on the dashboard, similar to the setup of the Datsun Go. Mahindra will likely equip the top variants with safety features like ABS and dual airbags at the front.
