Localization level on the Kwid will be a high 98 percent.
The Renault Kwid was snapped testing in Chennai, ahead of its launch announced to take place in the festive season period this year (October-November).
The Kwid was premiered in India in May this year, and marks Renault India's entry into the small car segment, which consists of the Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon. Renault announced that the Kwid will be powered by an all-new 0.8-liter petrol engine, however, the power and torque outputs of this unit were not released. Reports say this unit is capable of 57 bhp.
While the Kwid will launch with a 0.8L engine, Renault have not ruled out the possibility of a more powerful 1.0-liter engine, which will target rivals such as the Maruti Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon 1.0L. However, the French carmaker dismissed a diesel-powered Kwid, stating that buyers in this segment prefer petrol.
Features on the Kwid will include an optional driver-side airbag, foglights, a digital instrument cluster, front power windows and a 7-inch touchscreen MediaNAV system. An automated manual transmission (AMT) is another feature earmarked for the small car.
