Ford has started accepting orders for the updated Ford EcoSport (what premiered at the Geneva Motor Show this year as the Ford EcoSport S) in Europe, which gets a host of cosmetic, feature and mechanical revisions.

The 1.5L diesel engine now makes 95 PS on the updated EcoSport.

Starting with the exterior, the EcoSport can now be specified without the external spare wheel. European buyers, who found this too “brash” for their liking, can now opt for a tyre mobility kit instead.

Inside, the EcoSport now gets standard partial leather seats for Titanium models, and additional chrome detailing on the buttons and instrument cluster. An optional Winter Pack adds features such as heated front seats, heated windscreen, rear seat floor-level ventilation and heated mirrors.

The center console and door boards feature a new charcoal black color, while the cluster gets a light dimming function. Further, the SYNC system now provides a 4-inch color display and continues offering the voice-controlled connectivity.

There are no changes to the 1.0L EcoBoost and 1.5L Ti-VCT petrol engines.

Engineers have upped the usage of sound deadening materials in the doors and dashboard, and have given the compact SUV tighter seals around the pedals.

Coming to the mechanicals, the EcoSport’s 1.5-liter TDCi diesel engine now produces an extra 5 PS at 95 PS for improved drivability and low-end torque. Apart from the updated diesel engine, the rear torsion beam has been made more stiff, and the springs and shock absorbers feature improved damping. The ride height has also been lowered by 10 mm, while the steering and ESC have been retuned for European road conditions.

Later in the year, the EcoSport in Europe will also get satellite navigation and a rear view camera, Ford said in its press release. The EcoSport for Europe is exported from Ford India’s Chennai plant. While the EcoSport without the external spare wheel was spied near the outskirts of Chennai once, Ford India have not announced any plans to launch this version.

Probably leftovers from the Everest – like Danny DeVito in Twins!

  2. Joy says:

Hi Shrawan, is there any news from Ford about updating the diesel engine in India? Also can you check with Ford about the future of 1.5 TDCi engine? This 1.5L unit was not an all-new engine. It was developed from the older 1.4L unit. So, is it possible to extract more horses from this engine, say more than 110 bhp?

    1. Hello Joy, we have not heard anything but will keep you posted.
