Comes with improved vehicle dynamics, and lowered ride height.
Ford has announced a set of updates for the India-made Ford EcoSport at the ongoing 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The company showcased the new Ford EcoSport S which carries all the updates which will be available to customers in Europe from June onwards.
Starting from the outside, the biggest change is that the EcoSport will now be available without the rear mounted spare wheel. The show car, finished in Deep Impact Blue, also flaunted 17-inch alloys, a faux rear diffuser, mirror caps, and does not have roof rails.
To widen the EcoSport's demographic, Ford has decided to make it handle better, too. In order to achieve better dynamics, the EcoSport will now receive a 10 mm reduction in ride height, revised suspension system, and an optimised ESC and power steering.
The available torque is said to be increased for the EcoBoost and TDCi diesel engine (figures not provided), while all powertrains are now EU6 complaint. The diesel also benefits from a power output hke of 5 PS.
On the inside, the EcoSport S also benefits from reduced noise, vibration, and harshness levels, thanks to a thicker sound deadening in doors and dashboard, and tighter seals around the pedals. The handbrake lever has been relocated for better accessibility. The instrument panel has been updated with a chrome surround, there's chrome tips for windows switches, and a light dimming function for the cluster, as well.
In place of the spare wheel (which is optional), the company will offer a tyre mobility kit. An optional Winter Pack offers heated windscreen, mirrors, and seats. It also adds rear seat ducting at floor to improve comfort at the rear.
Further information can be found in the press release below. These updates are currently reserved for the European markets, and do not apply to the Indian specification.
