According to a report on the Economic Times, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is targeting to sell about 5,000 units/month of the Creta compact SUV, which is due to launch on July 21, 2015. The publication learns from vendors that Creta production for 2015 will be around 40,000 units, while next year, the Chennai plant will make 70,000-80,000 units of the compact SUV.
According to Mr. BS Seo, Managing Director of HMIL, the company is looking at leadership position in the UV space with the Creta. Over INR 1,000 cr has been invested in the project with parts localization of over 90 percent.
The Creta will launch in four trim levels - Base, S, SX and SX (O) - with three engine options. Starting the range will be the 1.4-liter U2 CRDi unit, while higher up, the Creta will be powered by 1.6-liter Dual VTVT petrol and CRDi VGT diesel engines. The 1.6-liter diesel will offer a 6-speed automatic transmission in addition to a 6-speed manual.

HMIL also announced that it will export the Creta to global markets, and ET reports that South Asian, African and Middle Eastern markets are the targeted ones. About 20 percent of production will be exported.
