Part of the reason for the Scorpio's sales performance came from the introduction of the new generation model back in September 2014. In the same month, Mahindra sold 6,060 units of the SUV, its best sales performance in a single month.

The new generation Scorpio is based on a hydroformed ladder-frame chassis and gets a new suspension system with anti-roll technology. Power continues to come from a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine capable of 120 bhp and 280 Nm of torque, paired to a new 5MT 320 manual gearbox. The base variant of the Scorpio though gets a 2.5-liter 75 bhp diesel engine.

Mahindra's current plans for the Scorpio extend to offering an automatic transmission on the SUV. The car maker has ruled out an AMT system, but is likely to fit a 6-speed torque-converter unit.
