Mustang launch likely around Diwali this year.
Ford India was reported to be evaluating the feasibility of launching the Ford Mustang in India back in 2013 and now it appears that the muscle car will be unveiled around Diwali. A report from Autocar India suggests that Ford’s global CEO Mark Fields has confirmed the entry of the Mustang to some dealers during the Sanand plant inauguration.
The 2015 Ford Mustang is the sixth-generation pony that was revealed in December 2013 and started selling in the USA last year. The car, unlike its earlier models, features a fully independent rear suspension with an all-new front perimeter sub-frame and double-ball-joint MacPherson struts. This pony car is available in 2-Door Coupé Fastback and 2-Door Convertible body styles, and crucially in RHD configuration.
The new Mustang has three engine options internationally - a 3.7-liter V6 making 300 bhp and 365 Nm of torque, a 5.0-liter V8 making 420 bhp and 528 Nm of torque (on GT variant), and a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged and direct injected 4-cylinder engine churning out 305 bhp and 406 Nm of torque, which is likely to be offered in India. A 6-speed manual and a 6-speed auto gearboxes are on the menu too.
The Mustang is endowed with Ford’s SYNC multimedia system, MyKey keyless start and Blind Spot warning system. Ford will introduce the car in India as a halo product targeting enthusiasts, and it will be more a brand builder than a volume spinner.
The company is planning to launch four new products in India this years including the Mustang. The just-revealed Figo Aspire compact sedan will the first of the new launches, likely by the month of June this year. This will be followed by the new Figo hatch, which is expected around mid-2015. The new Endeavour SUV will be launched in the last quarter of this year, likely after the festival season.
