Believed to be 6-speed DCT for petrol version from the EcoSport.
The new Ford Figo hatch was spotted testing with an automatic transmission for the first time, by Mr. Rohit Bagai of Team BHP. It exposes an auto-gear stick with ‘S’ mode apart from the usual 'P', 'R', 'N' and 'D' modes. This implies that the gearbox is the DCT found in the petrol-powered EcoSport. The 'Powershift' transmission is only available with a 1.5-liter petrol engine in the current Ford suite.
The second-generation Figo is to be offered with a newly developed 1.2-liter petrol engine with TiVCT (variable valve timing) technology, producing 85 PS of max power. A standard 5-speed manual transmission is a known fact. The 1.5-liter TDCi diesel from the EcoSport will be the other engine option for the Grand i10 competitor, with recalibration.
While Ford India is trying to broaden the Figo’s price range that includes a bare-bones entry variant spied few days back, an automatic variant with a DCT could sit on the far-end of the lineup.
If Ford equips the car with the DCT, the new Figo will only be the second hatch in India to have a twin-clutch gearbox, joining the VW Polo. It is also likely that the Figo compact sedan, reportedly christened Ford Figo Aspire, will share similar features and options, including the auto gearbox.
The new Figo with its compact sedan twin will reach showrooms in mid-2015, with production starting at Ford’s new new facility in Sanand, Gujarat, on March 26.
