India-bound new Ford Figo (Ford Ka) sells 50,000 units in 5 months - Brazil

The new Ford Ka (which will launch in India as the next generation Ford Figo this year) has turned out to be a sales success in its launch market in Brazil. The month of December 2014 saw Ford sell 12,717 units of the hatchback, one of its best ever sales performance since launch. Since its launch in September 2014, Ford has sold over 50,000 units of the hatchback in Brazil.

The new Ka has been responsible for Ford to register a double digit sales growth in the last quarter of 2014. Ford posted growth of 10.1 percent in this period, as compared to 8.9 percent during the same period in 2013.

And as far as its prospects for 2015 are concerned, the new Ka is continuing the sales momentum with 8,227 units sold in January 2015. Local media report that the new Ford is poised to outsell the Hyundai HB20 and the VW Gol. According to initial sales figures, the Ka is currently the third best selling car in Brazil.

Ford India has already started testing the new Ka (Figo) and the compact sedan, and a launch is expected to take place by mid-2015 for the latter.

The new Figo and the Figo-based sedan will be the first products to be produced at Ford India’s new manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
