Offered with MT and AT.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched a base variant on the Fortuner SUV with a 2.5-liter diesel engine. This engine is indeed borrowed from the Toyota Innova, but produces more power and torque on the Fortuner. It was only yesterday that TKM launched the Fortuner 4x4 AT.
The motor makes 144 PS (141.97 bhp) at 3,400 rpm and 34.98 kgm of torque between 1,600-2,800 rpm. In comparison, the Fortuner 3L makes 171 PS (168.59 bhp) at 3,600 rpm and 34.98 kgm of torque between 1,400-3,400 rpm.
The Fortuner 2.5L will be offered only as a 2WD, but can be had with 5-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Feature wise, the 2.5L misses out on a navigation system with voice command, HID headlights and headlamp washer. It instead receives halogen headlights.
The Fortuner 2.5L continues to get automatic climate control with rear AC vents, ABS, dual airbags, alloy wheels, powered driver's seat, music system with steering mounted controls and leather seats.

Compared to the 3.0-liter variants, the 2.5L is actually pricier by INR 20,000 but bear in mind that the 2.5L's price is inclusive of the TRD kit.
