VW to showcase its new five-seat SUV at Detroit next month - Report

Volkswagen is planning to add a new SUV to its line up. According to a report, the German car maker will showcase a new SUV concept at the upcoming North American International Auto Show.

Reuters reports that Volkswagen, in a bid to fill gaps in its U.S. portfolio, is looking at introducing a five-seat crossover SUV. The production version is likely to be given a green signal later in 2016-17, but the concept is going to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show (North American International Auto Show) next month.

The business publication's sources also add that VW is looking at manufacturing the new crossover at its facility in Tennessee. At present, the only two SUVs Volkswagen sells in the U.S. are the Tiguan and the Touareg.

A previous report suggests that a new Volkswagen SUV, positioned between the Taigun and the lager Tiguan can be launched in 2018. The said vehicle is expected to be based on VW's MQB platform and will be as big as the Golf hatchback. It could derive its design and overall dimensions from the T-ROC concept showcased at this year's Geneva Motor Show.
