VW have hinted that they could launch a compact SUV below the Tiguan, and yet larger than the Taigun. In fact, the brand showcased the T-ROC concept at the Geneva Motor Show this year and said that the concept, if produced, will be a Golf-sized SUV.
U.K.'s Car Magazine says that the compact SUV will launch sometime in 2018 and that it will be available in two wheelbase sizes: regular for Europe, and large for America and China.
The publication reports that the SUV will not be a true off-roader, yet it wouldn't be a Golf wearing a 'cross' kit. In essence, the SUV would sport a 5-door layout similar to the Golf, and would be equipped with features like VW's 4MOTION AWD system, larger wheels, front and rear underbody protection, flared arches, roof rails, hill descent control and a larger fuel tank. It will not get a mechanical differential lock or even a low-range transfer case.
The compact SUV would be based on the next gen Golf which is likely to use an advanced MQB platform. Going by the T-ROC concept's size, the compact SUV is likely to measure about 4.1 meters in length. Apart from the regular range of TSI and TDI engines, the SUV would see hybrid and electric propulsion as well, like the Golf GTE.

For the Indian market, VW is currently focusing on a smaller SUV that will give cars like the Ford EcoSport a run for its money. However, a larger compact SUV could bolster the German carmaker's portfolio, which is currently constrained to the Polo, Vento and Jetta.
