Will it get the Elantra's 6-speed AT?
A couple of prototypes of the refreshed Hyundai Verna were snapped testing on the outskirts of Chennai by a reader of RushLane recently. The test mules were apparently equipped with an all-new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment/navigation system.
The Verna, which ruled the roost for consecutive years, lost its segment leadership position to newer models like the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. To put it back in the minds of the customer, Hyundai India will launch the updated version in the first quarter of 2015, with new fascias and possibly mechanical changes.
The refreshed Verna gets a new front fascia with redesigned headlights, a new dual-slat chrome grille and an all-new bumper.
Features like projector headlights and LED daytime running lights will continue to be seen on the new model but the latter will be repositioned into the bumper.
The rear end is bound to get LED taillights and a new bumper with a redesigned apron. There are no changes to the sides of the car (the test mule here sports the same diamond cut alloy wheels), or even to the interior.

The Verna is offered in a range of variants thanks to its four engine options (a 1.4L and 1.6L engine is available with petrol and diesel), which should also serve on the refreshed model. However, the slightly archaic 4-speed automatic transmission could be replaced with a 6-speed automatic that is seen on the Elantra.
