The overwhelming response in Indonesia has delayed exports of the Yamaha R25.
The Yamaha R25 which is manufactured exclusively by Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) has been showcased in Vietnam, signalling that the launch in the country is around the corner.
The quarter-litre sportsbike debuted in Indonesia where it managed to garner 2,800 bookings in the first 25 hours. The high demand in the local market has made Yamaha Indonesia put export plans on hold temporarily. The showcase in Vietnam is the first instance of the motorcycle making its appearance outside Indonesia.
To recap, the R25 is powered by a 250 cc parallel-twin DiASil engine which is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The fuel-injected liquid-cooled motor has rated power and torque outputs of 36 PS (35.4 bhp) and 22.6 Nm of torque respectively.
The newest member of Yamaha's R family is believed to have a top speed in the vicinity of 173 km/h while it managed 196 km/h on a dyno test rig.
The Ninja and CBR rival would be exported to several countries from Indonesia including Vietnam and Japan. The bike is also India-bound but it remains to seen whether it will be a CKD.
Competitors: Kawasaki Ninja 300, Honda CBR300R
Expected Price: INR 2.75 – 3.75 lakhs, ex-showroom (depending on whether it is a CKD or a CBU)
