Report – Refreshed Mahindra Xylo to launch soon

Design changes and an improved suspension system in the reckoning for the MPV.

A report on Autocar India states that Mahindra will soon launch a freshened up version of the Xylo MPV to revive sales of the people mover which has slowly faded with time.

Sales of the Xylo took a hit last fiscal year with Mahindra selling only 13,961 units down by 44.3 percent. Sales of the MPV this calendar year aren’t any better. In January, the Xylo accounted for 980 units whereas last month, only 323 units were sold.

The Xylo facelift would continue with the current 2.2-liter diesel engine.

A dual tone black-and-beige interior, new seat fabrics and a mildly improved instrument cluster are reported to be the changes on the Xylo facelift. Other improvements come in the form of 60:40 split folding third row seats and better lumbar support for the second row seats. Exterior changes will be minor, as only body graphics and a chrome-rich tailgate are reported.

In May last year, Mahindra updated the Xylo with the 2.2-liter four-cylinder mHawk engine which makes 120 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. The powertrain would continue unchanged, though further improvements could be seen to the suspension system.

Expected price: INR 7.8 – 10.8 lakhs, ex-Showroom

    With Suzuki, Honda etc. entering MPV segment, Mahindra will have hard time fighting them. Mahindra clearly doesn’t have the technology to beat them. They try to be frugal at every step and end up with a very very inferior product. Quanto developed in about 70 crores! What more can you expect from such a car? Worst designs, bigger engines with lesser power, worst NVH levels, the list goes on. I wonder who are those few hundred people who are still buying from Mahindra. I think they are ignorant.

    tad boring mahindra design… i think their designers r worse n tell them to intern in hyundia or german or american auto studio or institute before launching cars lik this…. to boring to excite any sober commuters

    They should do it. Otherwise they heading for a disaster like rest of the Indian auto companies. I wonder why don’t build a new one from scratch in long run??? It feels like sitting on top of a bus while on a Xylo. It has got such a high seating position, it floats on the road than cruising. Would like to suggest, Let them develop a platform like IMV of Toyota, which has a very low “center of Gravity” which will transform very stable ride, at the same time can make many Vehicles from the same platform. And also a engine platform, which will be a same cc…but discharging various out for the requirement….something like OM651 of Mercedes Benz.. Which has the less friction to improved fuel efficiency and better drive-ability. Dump odd bits of awkward looking A/c vents. Weight??? Ooops…don’t add it like more Kg. for less price basis. You make a vehicle for European sepcs….that can sell easily in US…but US cars can not be sold in Europe….So design for Euro tastes..!!
