Report – Honda XR-V mini SUV unveiled in China
Nithyanandh K, As a toddler, those wheeled machinery fascinated me even before I knew what they’re called as! So here I'm, petrolhead by birth, Mechanical engineer by qualification and automotive reporter by profession!
To be made for China by the Dongfeng-Honda JV.
The China-spec crossover gets more aggressive design elements. The front end gets a smaller chrome lined grille and different detailing for the headlamps. The bumper carries more plastic than that of the global model and houses turn indicators and foglights.
The rear fascia receives sleeker taillights that are connected, in addition to a different tailgate and bumper. Inside, the dashboard layout remains the same but the instrument console is new. The Chinese version prefers circular AC vents compared to the global model’s continuous rectangular vent on the passenger side.
The SUV is 4,275 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,605 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,610 mm. Except the length which is 20 mm shorter, rest of the dimensions match the HR-V.
The Honda XR-V will be powered by two petrol engines – 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre. More details on the product would be available when it goes on sale in the country later this year.
Honda Cars India is reportedly developing a Brio-based crossover to lock horns with the Ford EcoSport instead of adapting the HR-V/Vezel.
Competitors: Ford EcoSport, Peugeot 2008, Chevrolet Trax, Suzuki Vitara
Launch Date in China: By end of 2014
