Report – Honda India to launch new Jazz in March 2015

Posted on: Aug 4, 2014 - 9:20am IST

Honda Cars India will launch the new 2014 Honda Jazz in March next year, the company’s President and CEO, Hiroshi Kanayama, told Autocar. The timeline is consistent with what Honda officials told Indian Autos Blog earlier on, that the new hatchback will launch by the end of this financial year, but not before January 2015.

The new Honda Jazz will launch in India in March 2015.

The new Jazz made its Indian debut at the Auto Expo earlier this year. In markets such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, New Zealand and Australia, the car went on sale over the course of the last month.

Based on the same platform as the new Honda City, the 2014 Jazz is expected to be heavily localized in India in order to achieve a competitive price, unlike the earlier model which was seen as an overpriced hatchback.

The car will be available with a petrol and a diesel engine.

For India, the Jazz is expected to be offered with a petrol and a diesel engine. The petrol motor would be the Brio’s 1.2-liter four-cylinder i-VTEC making 88 PS (86.76 bhp) and 109 Nm of torque. The diesel powerplant will be the 1.5-liter i-DTEC which makes 100 PS (98.59 bhp) and 200 Nm of torque on the Amaze, City and Mobilio. The petrol motor could receive the option of the 5-speed automatic gearbox in addition to the 5-speed manual.

Competitors: Maruti Swift, Hyundai Elite i20, VW Polo, Tata Bolt, Fiat Punto Evo

Expected Price: INR 5 – 7 lakhs, ex-Showroom

HONDA MOTOR IS IN THE NEWS FOR THE WRONG REASON. News says-The president of Honda
Motor Co. and 12 other top executives will take unprecedented pay cuts after recall OF 425,000 Honda Jazz and other models including Vezel. The recall comes as Honda faces lawsuits over crashes involving airbags supplied by Takata Corp. The airbags have been linked to four deaths in Honda vehicles
As a result of the recent recall activity, Honda confirmed CEO Takanobu Ito will take a 20 per cent pay cut while other senior executives will carry home 10 per cent less pay.

In india Honda is treated with kid gloves by the auto-media. Look at the inside of the boot of the new “City”. It looks so shabby and shoddy for a million-rupee car. Indian customer is the easiest to please. Therefore many auto-companies , in the garb of cost-cutting & fuel efficiency, compromise on safety, comfort & pollution.

Poor ground clearance is the problem with Jazz. In India its not practicable. They should have raised the clearance up to 180 for such a car in India.

I heard Honda is going to make the ground clearance to 175mm for India which is also good for Jazz. I am sure Honda will point out this seriously bcoz Mobilio is their last launch with a ground clearance of 189mm that is very very good for Indian conditions. Maruti Ertiga is of 185mm. Very shortly you can hear the success story of Mobilio. So they are now on the right track.

I strongly believe that there is a sizeable market for 1.5 litre petrol Jazz, with 16″ tyres positioned as peppy, Rally sports car for sports enthusaiasts. This will be like emerging high end motorcycles in the mid segment, like KTM, 200, 390, Pulsar 200 and 375 FF models.
