First UK built Honda Jazz rolls out of Swindon

Honda-Jazz-Swindon-Plant-mainThe U.K version shown here has alloy wheels and fog lamps

Buoyed by the success of the hatchback in Britain, Honda has started producing Jazz in Swindon, UK. This means, there is no more ‘Made in Japan’ Honda Jazz for UK and European customers.

Till this point, all European nations sold cars built in Japan. With rapidly falling sales in India, Europe could consider sourcing Jazz from the Indian stockyard.

Honda plans to build around 20,000 Honda Jazz units by March 2010 at the Swindon plant and also the plant will be responsible for the production of the top spec CR-V and Civic.

Nothing but a declining sales graph for much-hyped Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz declining salesStudy – Thumbs down for the overpriced, underpowered Jazz

Yes, that is right. After all the drama and countless inquiries, sales of the Honda Jazz resembles the opening of a pepsi cola bottle. Experts believe that despite its costly platform, roomy interiors and Honda badge slapped inside and out, it is unable to give competition to other cheaper alternatives, ie- can’t hold a candle to Hyundai, Maruti, Tata etc.

According to officials, there were almost 50,000 inquiries for the Honda Jazz but only 4,000 of them were converted into sales. The Indian customer has intelligently moved to the City as it offers a boot, a more powerful engine and costs slightly more.

So was the Honda Jazz brought in to be a mere bait? If the ill-treated Jazz had feelings, it would cry.

The other important point to notice is the saloon vs the hatchback phenomena – people see more value in Honda City and don’t mind shelling out a few extra bucks for it.

The actual figures are like in June above 2,000 units were sold, 1,037 in July, 1,029 in August and just 504 units in September.

So 100 in October?

Honda Jazz Origamy edition

Honda_Jazz_origamy

This scaled down version of the Honda Jazz looks crumpled. No, it has got nothing to do with the sheet metal quality.

Look closely – the model is actually made using paper, paint, glue and scissors!

Design by Liem Kou Phing from Indonesia, the website says its is his first paper model design. Imagine how realistic his 100th attempt will be!

The Honda Jazz Origamy edition is truly the most creative and cutest thing ever featured on IAB. It is a shame that there are no high resolution images or clearer pictures of this little creation, but if someone knows how to make it and have decent snaps, you’re work will certainly be featured on our front page.

Honda – Jazz helps get inputs for future compact; startling facts

Honda_Jazz_India_launch_Mumbai 79

The Honda Jazz is not only helping it get valuable feedback from hatch buyers which it feels would be essential when designing the global compact car, but also resulting in boost of Honda City sales!

OK, we find this one a hard pill to swallow.

The Jazz is also helping the company gather key market inputs for the global small compact car scheduled to be launched during 2011-12.

Honda Official -

“Our market research tell us that there are a considerable number of customers who come in to have a good look at the Jazz and end up buying the City”

Does this mean a person who is bent on purchasing a Honda vehicle find the Jazz less VFM or worthy than the City?

Honda continues to support the Jazz’ ‘tall’ pricing, shall we call it? – the official remarks with its premium feel and high level of features, it is “unlike run-of-the-mill small cars” in India.

The Jazz is a sub-4 meter hatchback and has a 1.2-liter engine which is spec-enough to avail benefits extended to small cars in the country. The car is pitched at the country’s younger generation and women who are on the lookout for a car.

The Jazz shares 60% of its parts with the City. In fact, one Honda’s staff charged with customer relations tells us Honda does not term or market this car as a hatchback or a close relative to the City. All the family matters end at the production line and in the showroom, the situation both cars in resemble an exam hall atmosphere.

Initial market feedback indicated the age profile of the Jazz user is five years younger to the typical City user – hinting Honda has succeeded in addressing a younger audience with this car.

True, but how many youngsters today in India, a country that looks for value, features and comforts more than anything else, afford a 7-lakh product? Honda says these people will be offered the more cheaper global small car scheduled for 2011-12.

Here’s a quick fact – Almost 45 per cent of Jazz buyers are existing Honda customers! cars, that is. This is a very encouraging sign which Honda believes is going to play a major role when introducing the small car. The brand is addictive, and the small car is going to recall all these people again in the future, it says.

In the U.S though, you could buy the Fit off a Honda showroom. Now add to that some flashy jewelery in the form of Honda and Mugen parts which makes the Fit sportier and more fun (and pricey as well)

Honda’s long-time racing team and performance parts supplier, Mugen, has introduced a list of accessories.

Honda Jazz to get City’s 1.5L V-TEC engine in 2010

Honda Jazz to get City’s 1.5L V-TEC engine in 2010

Honda Siel will launch a ‘Hot’ variant of its pricey hatchback – Jazz, by early-2010. The new variant will feature Honda City’s 1.5L V-Tec engine that produces close to 110Bhp. The Jazz will also be offered with an optional automatic transmission by end-2009.

Honda claims that the V-Tec engine will be as fuel efficient as the 1.2L counterpart. Despite the 300cc increase in engine displacement, and a 20Bhp increase in power, Honda says that the clean and efficient City V-Tec engine will find the best match in the lighter Honda Jazz.

Predictions say that the Jazz 1.5 would cost 10-15% more than the existing Jazz 1.2, almost a lakh more. But for those who are looking for a powerful, comfortable, spacious and compact alternative to entry sedans, the Honda Jazz would be the only choice.

Honda Jazz is 2009’s best selling vehicle in Japan

Honda Jazz is 2009’s best selling vehicle in Japan

No, we’re not kidding.

As Honda induces rage shock into the tender hearts and brains of Indian hatchback buyers with its pricing, it manages to topple every other car to take the coveted best selling car in Japan, year after year.

65,589 units of the Honda Jazz were delivered to Japanese customers in the first half of 2009.

The Suzuki Alto is India’s best selling car. I guess it sells for a million yen in Japan.

The Honda Jazz/Fit was the best selling car in Japan last year as well and is in a strong position to repeat that feat again.

Jazz Update – 1,800 test drive requests in 2 days; 1,000 booked in week 1

Honda is also somewhat successful in this as they have received around 1,800 test drive requests in 2 days with help of banners etc on related sites.

The ads are displayed on Yahoo India, Rediff, IBNlive, In.com and on Indian Autos Blog too.

1800 test drive requests in 2 days is a good figure but the big question is actually how many people turn up to take the test drive and eventually how many of them are going to purchase the car. We’ll get to know about it soon.

Honda Jazz and Honda City get stability program in Australia

Honda Jazz and Honda City get stability program in Australia

Honda Australia have confirmed it will offer stability control as a standard feature in the City and Jazz. In Honda’s terms, it is known as Vehicle Stability Assist. These two cars will have an advantage over others in the range, as it offers skid stopping technology.

The feature is not available anywhere in this segment not even as a cost option. The Jazz in UK is already updated with a VSA in the higher end models and you have to spend some extra to get the feature in the base model.

The Jazz has already achieved a 4-star ANCAP safety rating and the City is yet to be tested. The Jazz earlier received a 5 star rating from Euro NCAP.

What brings smile on Honda customers’ face is that the company plans to bring this feature across the range with no extra charges by late 2010.

A definite read – Honda’s strategy for Jazz in India

A definite read – Honda’s strategy for Jazz in India

Honda is targeting a market of multiple car owners in the country for its newly launched Jazz. Honda has a customer base of around 3.75 lakh out of which 70 % are the people who own multiple cars who may like to add the Honda jazz to there fleet of cars, Honda claims.

That makes a lot of sense as these are the people who already trust the Honda brand and are more likely to be interested in a new product from the Japanese house.

And also it sounds like a good idea because Honda Jazz is not a car which will be bought by an individual looking for his first car or a person who wants to buy a small car because, as he would be repelled by the Jazz’s obscene tall pricing.

Mini Honda Jazz could be the perfect urban runabout

Mini Honda Jazz could be the perfect urban runabout

It is true! Honda’s city car rivaling the Toyota iQ and Smart Fortwo is a smaller version of the proven Honda Jazz.

Honda’s mini car dreams have got us dreaming. Honda, I think is emulating the Honda City’s strategy meaning a smaller version of the flagship car. In the mini car’s case it is the Jazz with the guiding light.

The mini Jazz could go on sale as early as 2011 reports say, which is very unlikely considering the high level of work required to bring out a car. It could take a year longer than that, but then this is Honda, and they are capable of anything.
