The Mahindra G101 (codename) 110 cc automatic scooter which has been caught testing numerous times will be launched in the second week of August, says a report from Economic Times.
The G101 is the company's first product in the lucrative 110 cc segment. The technical details of the scooter are unclear but it is expected to borrow its engine from the successful Centuro commuter motorcycle. The engine in question puts out 8.5 PS (8.38 bhp) and 8.5 Nm of torque. A CVT would be transmitting the power.
Previous spyshots have revealed that the new Mahindra scooter will be equipped with a smart remote key just like the Centuro commuter. The remote key supports anti-theft alarm, find me lamps and guide me lamps. Other Centuro-like features like engine immobilizer and LED pilot lamps are also expected to be found in the new scooter.
The 110 cc automatic scooter segment has been registering phenomenal growth in the Indian two wheeler market, so much so that the Honda Activa (110 cc) ended 2013 as the second best selling two wheeler in the country, next only to the Hero Splendor. The recently launched Suzuki Let's also started off strongly.
Mahindra has announced that it will launch three to four new products before the end of this year. Apart form the Mahindra G101, the Mojo 300 cc motorcycle and disc brake equipped Centuro are also in the pipeline.
