Honda Cars India grew leaps and bounds since April 2013, thanks in no small measure to the i-DTEC diesel motor.

The Honda Amaze has registered sales of 95,445 units in India since its debut in April 2013.

The 1.5-litre EarthDreams engine, that was specifically designed to comply with India's sub-4 metre norm, debuted in the Honda Amaze and also started doing duty in the new City since January 2014. The critically acclaimed motor will also power the Mobilio which is just days away from its Indian launch.

Riding high on the diesel engine's success, the company has managed to sell 95,445 units of the Honda Amaze and 45,900 units of the new Honda City till date.

The four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine puts out 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5- and a 6-speed manual transmissions in the Amaze and the City respectively. The oil burner delivers impressive fuel economy figures of 25.8 km/l in the Amaze and 26 km/l in the City.

The diesel engine aside, the Amaze is powered by a 1.2-litre 88 PS i-VTEC petrol engine while the City gets a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol unit that has 119 PS on tap.

With the addition of the diesel engined Honda Mobilio compact MPV to the portfolio, Honda's sales in India seems poised to grow further in the coming months.
