The Maruti S-Cross will launch early next year in India.

Maruti will launch the S-Cross in India early next year. The car will be positioned as a rival to the Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Nissan Terrano, and will be one of six new launches from the company in the next 24 months.

The SX4 S-Cross had its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show last year, and is a successor to the SX4 hatchback in international markets. In India, Maruti will enter a new segment with the S-Cross as only the sedan derivative of the SX4 has been sold hitherto.

Spied Maruti SX4 S-Cross side
The S-Cross is available with petrol and diesel engines, and in 2WD and 4WD layouts in Europe.

The crossover is available in Europe with a petrol and diesel engine. The petrol engine gets power from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder which produces 120 PS and 156 Nm of torque, and pairs to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. The diesel S-Cross uses the 1.6-liter Fiat Multijet engine to make 120 PS and 320 Nm of torque, and uses a 6-speed manual transmission. Both engines are offered optionally with Suzuki's 4WD system.

An earlier report claimed that for India, Maruti would consider using a Peugeot-derived 1.6-liter diesel engine. The company has not made any announcements regarding the S-Cross since the showcase at the Auto Expo.
