While we had reported earlier that the new TVS Apache will come later this year, a report on ZigWheels says that the bike is expected to be a 250 cc model.

TVS Draken - X21 concept front three quarters
The TVS Draken made its debut at the Auto Expo 2014.

The report goes on to say that the engine in question could be a detuned version of the same 250 cc engine that was shown on the TVS Draken concept displayed at the Auto Expo 2014. IAB had already reported that the upcoming TVS Apache will borrow some of its features from the Draken concept.

The Draken was fitted with a single-cylinder liquid-cooled 250 cc engine making 39 hp and 23 Nm of torque.

The report says that it has sources that claim that the new Apache is being tested in secrecy and that the bike, despite TVS' collaboration with BMW, has been designed and developed entirely by TVS' engineers.

While some features shown on the Draken, like the offset monoshock suspension might make it to the production-bike, things like an LED taillight might not be cost-effective.

While a 250 cc Apache with features from the Draken concept sounds interesting, it would make sense for TVS to retain its existing Apache offering and sell the 250 cc variant as a premium option. The Apache 250 will take on the Honda CBR250R - a new version of which was unveiled in Indonesia yesterday - the KTM Duke 200, etc. It is likely that the Apache would be the cheapest of all, given its high localisation content.

The 250 cc Apache will compete against the likes of the KTM Duke 200 and Honda CBR250R.

The Draken concept showcased a list of features including an offset monoshock rear suspension, LED taillights, asymmetrical headlamp, and an underbody exhaust to name a few.
