Spied – IAB reader spots a fleet of EcoSports in Goa

The Ford EcoSport has been in the spotlight for the past few months and we at Indian Autos Blog were obsessively covering every single move of the compact crossover SUV. We went to Geneva to get you a video walkaround, got you our reader’s perspective of the India-spec car from a mall activation, and also checked out the car in Shanghai two weeks ago.

We have brought you innumerable spyshots of the car, almost on a daily basis (sometimes more than once a day)! Ford India has been taking the car to various cities for a public display in shopping malls. The EcoSport Urban Discoveries contest, a part of the pre-launch campaign is also rolling simultaneously.

Meanwhile, one of our ardent readers, Mr. Aniket has sent in a set of spyshots of a fleet of cars that were parked in a yard in Goa. Interestingly the cars doesn’t have any tell tale signs of being a test mule (no ‘On Test’ stickers anywhere on the car).

This could mean that Ford has finally decided to move ahead with the launch of the EcoSport. The fleet in Goa could be lined up for an impending media drive which Indian Autos Blog has also been invited to this month.

The highlight of the compact SUV would be the award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol motor. Even though the 1.5 litre diesel would be spearheading sales, the EcoBoost engine could have enough takers, if petrol prices reduce progressively. And then you have the 1.5 litre petrol as well, mated to the Powershift dual clutch automatic transmission.

In the background there’s Ford India’s previous bread & butter product. Hoping the one in foreground becomes the next.

Honda did the Amaze media drive in Goa and Ford follows suit ? It would be a good move if Ford decides to advance the Ecosport release. The earlier plan of June release and deliveries by August was stretching it way too much.

I wonder if the ES would suffer from over exposure, even when you see the pics, you don’t get the excitement of a yet to be launched brand new release.

Amaze gives you a spacious sedan with a 1.5 litre 100 bhp engine with 26 kmpl, 400 litre boot space, all door power windows, AC, Power Steering and ABS with EBD and the valued Honda badge at 6 lacs ex showroom.

Can the Ecosport beat Amaze, which is already a mass market bumper success, in terms of pricing and features and offer better value for money? Considering the ES’s inherent limitations in terms of cabin space, interiors and practicality of use, ES would strike a chord with the masses only with extremely aggressive pricing. If not, Amaze would easily be the COTY and the biggest success of 2013, eating away on the ES numbers lazily.
