Auto Shanghai 2013 Live – Ford EcoSport ready to take on China

Ford in India is still dealing with their pre launch campaign for the EcoSport. However, Ford in China has just lifted the wraps off the Ford EcoSport at 2013 Auto Shanghai.

The Ford EcoSport as you may all know is a compact (or urban) crossover designed specifically for markets such as India and China. The EcoSport has been made keeping in mind rival Renault/Dacia Duster.

The EcoSport measures just at about 4 meters in length and features seating for 5 people. The rear hatch opens horizontally and it’s not a hatch. It provides a boot space of 346 liters.

The EcoSport does not have 4WD and has to do with front wheel drive only. However, Ford still boasts about the EcoSport’s 200mm ground clearance and 550mm water wading depth. The EcoSport also has a 25 degree approach and breakover angle and 35 degree departure angle. In terms of tech, the car has Hill Hold as well.

Ford has chosen to display the Savannah Orange color of the EcoSport as that is the communications color of the car, even in India. For the Indian market, the EcoSport will be available with the choice of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Ford has also confirmed that the EcoSport will be debuting the 1.0-EcoBoost engine along side the 1.5-liter diesel and petrol engines.

    Hey Anjan,as reported earlier, the Chinese get an extended version of the Indian ES ? It should be more than 4 m,right?

      Yes, Mohammed, you are right. In China, ES is longer than 4m and thus has better rear legroom. If I am correct, it also comes with sun roof, feature missing in India. Lets see the pricing of ES in India. If top end is at around 10L, then it will be dud as you can buy proper SUV, Tata Safari Storme in this price. Friends who sat in ES in Mumbai told that space is comparable with Hyundai i20. Decide.
