Tata Motors would soon begin exporting the Tata Nano to Nepal from next month onwards, reports Indian Express. The Nano however would not be as cheap as it is in India, as Tata could price the vehicle at 7 lakh Nepali Rupees (NPR) which equates to 4.36 lakh Indian Rupees.
The cost of the Nano is tripled in Nepal, thanks to the 300% excise duty. The price the Tata Nano, at which it would be sold for in Nepal is in fact much more than what the Tata Nano Europa could cost.
Sipradi Trading Company would be Tata Motors’ distributor in Nepal. Sipradi Trading’s CEO, Shambhu Prasad Dahal said the company will receive the first lot of 5 Tata Nanos by July end. These 5 Nanos would be put for a test run in Nepal before Tata starts exporting large volumes of the Nano.
The Tata Nano is a perfect car for developing countries and Tata would look at many similar export markets which need low cost cars and where there are no stringent safety regulations.
But with Tata Motors having an order backlog of more than one lakh Nanos, the export of Tata Nanos to foreign markets could anger customers who have been waiting for their Nano patiently right here in India.

Well, when I heard that nano would be seen running on the road of Nepal at first I was so excited and happy and I thought that now the luck has come for the middle class family to fulfill their dream of riding on a car b…….ut the Highest Price of the nano has broken the dreams of million.I felt that the NEPAL GOVERNMENT doesn’t want his lowest people also engoy the riding on a low priced car.I request the Nepal Govet to give an oppurtunity to the Middle Class family to ride on a cheapest car. Thank You.
why Nepal government make 300% overcharge then india . its a not good for nepalese , its bad luck of middle class who want to leave their BIke
I think GoN needs to bring forth an appropriate policy regarding the import of foreign cars/vehicles. High taxation should be levied on luxurious cars. In this way, rich persons should also be given chance to enjoy nice cars but by paying more to government. On the other hand, lesser tax should be levied to other classes of cars/vehicles which are in fact needed in the present context of life style. As Nepal has such a specific relation with India, why not work out a specific market arrangement of car import with India by GoN? In this context, marketing of Nano cars in Nepal should be a topic of discussion. All efforts should be explored so that Nepalis can own this brand of car in a comparatively affordable price. Then only the saying that Nano is the World’s cheapest car would hold true in Nepal as well.
I like the Nano tata and i’m waiting for it but real i actually request to our governer of nepal to reduce tax and heartly request to do so on thanking you …
Well For the market of Nano in Nepal seems as usual as of its other product like Indica,Vista etc In my view there will not be drastically change in its economy & market for nano it seems normal as usual as it was because 7 lakh for the car Nono is no new change price as of others car price is the sum of huge money nearly 4.37 lakh (IC) its NO NEW MARKET PRICE FOR THE COUNTRY & AS WELL AS FOR THE PEOPLE LIVING HERE.INSTEAD the people wish could others if is fixed .The people can afford others too if people have to invest Rs.700000 for the TATA NANO so i will like to request the company & Government of Nepal to availability oF Nano car with the minium price where most of prople can afford.
Even it has been said that the cheapest car in the world The Tata Nano car but it is the expensive car in Nepal where most of the people living in this country coul not afford this car so actually for this car the government of Nepal have to do heavy(Tax%) exercise to reduce the price in order to availability to every Neplese peoiple & for economic standard of the people.
The price seems outrageous
